[flexiblemap src=”http://data.opencity.in/Data/Karnataka-Assembly-Constituency-156.kml” width=”100%” height=”400px” ]

The Mahalakshmi Layout assembly constituency is situated in northwest Bengaluru. It is considered to be the third largest residential layout in the city, following Jayanagar and Banashankari.

Its six wards are Mahalakshmipuram, Nandini Layout, Geleyarabalaga, Nagapura, Kamalanagar and Vrishabhavathinagar.

The layout faced a special problem when heavy rains lashed it in 2017, killing five. The Vrishabhavathi valley flooded houses between Laggere and Yeshwanthpur. Garbage and sewage choked the region.

Residents were furious and accused the authorities of having done little to improve the area. They urged the authorities to upgrade and improve it and received a plethora of promises, including upgrading 23 of the 53 parks here. Narrow roads and lack of water supply plagues the region. Due to fast growth, there has been an exodus of workers from Peenya to Nandini Layout and Mahalakshmipuram.

  • The total number of voters in 2008 :113,404,
  • The total number of voters in 2013:1,48,061
  • Currently, the number of registered voters: 2,86,923.

Every year, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) collects property tax during the months of April and May, and a 5% rebate is accorded to encourage timely tax payments. Missing names and missed opportunities: A Chennai citizen’s experience of elections

Irregularities in electoral rolls and voter enrollment in Chennai left many citizens high and dry, while ECI officials looked the other way.

The way the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was conducted in Tamil Nadu, especially in Chennai, has laid bare the lacunae in the system. For residents, who were not able to cast their votes despite having valid Voter ID cards, it seemed nothing short of a sham. Every time before the elections, the electoral rolls are updated by Election Commission of India (ECI) officials. Instead of deputing people who are working full-time within the ECI, the work is outsourced to government employees drawn from schools, colleges or other agencies. These ECI staff, who come from distant locations,…
