A meet on Madiwala lake development

Both Kuvempunagar Permanent Resident’s Welfare Association and Karnataka Forest department are planning to work together for the development of Madiwala lake. This and more updates from BTM Layout in the last fortnight.

A public awareness meeting for Madiwala Lake development was held at Kuvempu Park, 15th Main, BTM Layout, 2nd stage on January 16 th that 6.30 PM. The discussion organised by Kuvempunagar Permanent Resident’s Welfare Association (KPRWA). Around 20 members of the association had participated in the discussion.  V Ganesh, Range Forest Officer of Karnataka Forest department was the chief guest.

Ganesh requested the residents to join hands for the Madiwala lake development programme, saying “It is not possible for the authorities alone to save the environment without help from the public”.

“South Bangalore doesn’t have a lake. So once the lake is in a good condition, we don’t need to think about the revenue for it. The lake is big enough to have boating facilities and I am sure the public will queue up for a ride in the lake,” Ganesh explained.

The cycling and walking path construction work at the lake is still pending and its completion is eagerly awaited by BTM residents. “Though the water is dirty in the lake, rare species of birds still fly around there. So once the lake is in a good condition, a good number of birds will be there,” says R R Swami, a member of KPRWA.

“We need some commitment from the society towards this project in restoring the natural beauty of the lake and saving the environment,” says A Vidyashankar, president of KPRWA.

The response of the audience was positive. Both the association and the forest department are planning to work together for the development of the lake.

Weekend cultural programmes at BTM

Saturday, January 16th saw around 50 BTM residents spend an enjoyable evening at Kuvempu Auditorium, located at 15th Main, BTM Layout, II stage.

Visually impaired brothers Roshan Rajan and Rithvik Rajan from Madiwala sang and played the keyboard. Roshan, the older brother learned playing the keyboard by himself and Ritvik has been learning it for the past two years. The latter is also a participant of a popular Malayalam TV reality show Idea Star Singer.

Organised by the Senior Citizen’s Forum of BTM layout, the weekly event is open to all. The event was supported by GNR Babu, a resident of Kuvempu Nagar who is also a social worker.  ⊕
