Vijaya College founder’s birth centenary in 2012

The birth centenary of Prof. V T Srinivasan, one of the founders of Bangalore High School and Vijaya College should be celebrated in a befitting manner.

The birth centenery of Prof.V T Srinivasan, who was one of the founders of Bangalore High School and Vijaya College falls in the year 2012.

Prof. V T Srinivasan was born in the year 1912. His ancestors hailed from Vengalathur, North Arcot District and the place is located near Kanchipuram. His father was V T Ekambarem, who served as a Tahsildar in Cuddapah, Andhra Pradesh and his mother was Kamakshi. He studied in Madras Christian College and in Annamalai University.

Along with K Srinivasa Rao and K Lakshminarayana Rao, Srinivasan started The Bangalore High School, which soon became well known for the quality of education imparted. Later , they started The Vijaya college at Jayanagar. Prof. V T Srinivasan was the principal of the college from 1951-1972. He was a professor in English and Mathematics. His method of teaching Shakespeare’s dramas had won the acclaim of student community that even students from other colleges thronged the lecture hall in Vijaya College.

Sir C V Raman, the Nobel prize winner had said that (expertise in) English and Mathematics was a rare combination and only Prof. Srinivasan possessed it. Srinivasan was also a close associate of prominent Bangaloreans Masti Venkatesa Iyengar, Dr.D.V.Gundappa and Justice Nittoor Srinivasa Rao.

Prof. Srinivasan passed away on December 1st, 1977.

I hope that the present management of Vijaya College will ensure that the Centenery celebrations will be held in a befitting manner.

Prof.V.T.Srinivasan’s teaching of Shakesperes Dramas was unique. He was at his best when he taught Mark Antony’s Funeral Oration from “Julius Caeser”. It is fervently hoped that the present authorities of Vijaya College will Celebrate his Birth Centenery in a Grand Manner !!!

It is most unfortunate that the website of Vijaya College has not due recognition to Prof V.T.Srinivasan, one of the founders and Principal of the college for over 22 tears. It is a historical blunder

It is really sad such a papular person of his time has not been considered by his own founded institution. I studied in Vijaya Collage between the years 1960 to 1963. I even to today remember his spirit in while giving Lectures on Trigonometry and Pure Geometry. The way he described pure Geometry is even to today is in memory. He introduced pure Geometry that the students should be very attentive to understand pure geometry as it is like finding a dark object in a dark room which is not there! While explaining about a point he said it is like understanding God himself and quoted the sloka Anurenu Anuradha Mahadenu mahadashya from upanishad. He used to become one with the students while teaching mathematics in the class room.

Dog park in south Mumbai vacant for more than a year

A functional dog park remains unopened in Worli, even as pet parents in Mumbai struggle to find open spaces for their furry friends.

Any pet parent will tell you that dogs need a safe space where they can be free and get their requisite daily exercise. Leashed walks can fulfil only a part of their exercise requirement. Especially dogs belonging to larger breeds are more energetic and need to run free to expend their energy and to grow and develop well. This is especially difficult in a city like Mumbai where traffic concerns and the territorial nature of street dogs makes it impossible for pet parents to let their dogs off the leash even for a moment. Mumbai’s invisible beaches: A photo-story

Mumbai's shoreline may be famous for iconic beaches like Juhu and Girgaum but there's much more to it, says a city photographer.

Once a year, I inadvertently overhear someone wondering aloud about the sea level while crossing the Mahim or Thane Creek bridges without realising that the sea has tides. Similar conversations are heard at the beaches too. The Bandra Worli Sea Link, which now features in almost every movie about Mumbai, as seen from Mahim. People regularly throng the sea-fronts of Mumbai - sometimes the beaches, sometimes the promenades, but…
