Meet your new chief minister

There is plenty that has been said and done in Karnataka's politics to bring us yet another chief minister, this time with only nine months left for the BJP’s term. Meet the new chief.

Karnataka’s newest Chief Minister is Jagadish Shivappa Shettar. Shettar is 56 and the state’s MLA from Hubli.

Shettar earned a B Com in 1977 from Jagadguru Gangadhara Commerce College, Hubli and LLB from JSS Sakri Law College in 1980. His wife is Shilpa Shettar and they have two sons, Prashanth and Sankalp.

In his 2008 filings before the election commission, Shettar and Shilpa disclosed their assets as follows.

One of the Deputy Chief Ministers is R Ashoka. He is 55 years old and the state’s MLA from Padmanabha Nagar, Bangalore. Ashok’s wife is Pramila Rani and they have two sons, Sharath and Ajay.

K S Eshwarappa is the other Deputy Chief Minister. He is 64 years old and MLA from Shimoga. Eshwarappa earned a B Com in 1973-74 from National Commerce College, Shimoga, Mysore University. His wife is Jayalakshmi.
