Snooker: Uma Devi and I H Manudev clinch six-red tournament title

The winners will represent the State at the Nationals ranking tournament to be held in Chandigarh later this month.

Uma Devi and I H Manudev won the maiden six-red snooker state-ranking tournament organized by Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA). The men and women’s finals were played at the KSBA hall near Vasanthanagar on 31st and 30th August respectively.

Ajay Bhushan and M S Arun will be the State entries in the forthcoming Nationals at Chandigarh from 17 to 25th September 2011. Manudev and Balaji Reddy get direct entry. Uma Devi and Chitra M will represent women at the National tourney.

Uma overcame an ailing Chitra who was suffering from stiff neck pains and spasm. Chitra lost three frames to Uma and won a single frame. She conceded the match to Uma. In the semi-finals, Chitra beat fifteen-year-old Varsha Sanjeev and Uma Devi defeated Lakshmi Suryanarayana to set up a title clash.

Varsha Sanjeev beat Lakshmi Suryanarayana 3 – 1

In the men’s section of the tournament, four-time State Snooker Champion I H Manudev, beat Ajay Bhushan 6 – 2. Bhushan, a twenty six-year old interior designer was making his first big stage appearance at the tournament and put up a brave fight against Manudev.

Manudev continued his accurate potting with a 39 break in the second frame. Ajay fought back to take the 3rd frame to win on black. In the next two frames went to Manudev’s, with a 39 break in 5th frame. Again, Bhushan came back to take the 6th frame but Manudev took the next 2 frames comfortably.

In the semi-final matches of the tournament, Ajay Bhushan beat his brother, Amit Bhushan and Manudev beat M S Arun to each the finals

M S Arun beat Amit Bhushan 4 – 3
