What has Vijayanagar MLA been up to in the last five years?

M Krishnappa has been in news for landgrabs. He has supported the work the Ugly Indians wanted to do on metro pillars in Vijyanagar.

M Krishnappa, or Layout Krishnappa as he is popularly called, is among the richest MLAs in the state given his background in real estate. The Congress leader was an MLC between 2000 to 2006. He even contested the MP elections from Bangalore South. He was the Minister for Housing in the Siddaramaiah cabinet and was the Minister in-charge for Mandya in 2016.

The former Minister has been in the news with accusations of land grabbing around the Byrasandra lake being made against him. Krishnappa is among the Congress leaders who has a website for himself, though it is fairly dated in terms of personal information and his current political position. Despite speculations that he would join BJP, he has remained in INC and is re-contesting the polls.

November 23, 2015: M Krishnappa asked why Ettinahole project was being delayed. M B Patil Water Resources Minister, gave the required explanation.

November 12, 2017: During an inspection of Vijayanagar and Govindarajnagar constituencies, he said that Rs 8 crore was given to slum dwellers to build homes and that he has disributed 4900 ration cards.

February 7, 2017:  MLA M Krishnappa visited the crowded Vijaynagar metro station during Rajyotsava and promised the vendors around the area that he would look into finding a permanent solution to the lack of designated parking spots.  

February 20, 2017: To solve the problem of encroachment on footpaths, the MLA has allotted space at the water tank junction in Vijaynagar for 40 vendors to continue their livelihood. This will also reduce the inconvenience to commuters at several junctions.

November 11, 2017:  The metro-pillars on West of Chord road will have carvings representing the Vijayanagar empire. The MLA M Krishnappa said the work by artists from Chitrakala Parishat and the Ugly Indian will be finished by three months.

November 22, 2014:The Lokayukta investigated the assets of the MLA and his father as they had received a complaint from activists.The accusations which said that the two politicians had 10,000 percent more wealth than disclosed turned out to be false. Surprisingly, they had less than 31 percent of disclosed assets.

June 20, 2016: When the cabinet was reshuffled in a sudden move, throwing many MLAs off guard, the new list failed to include the veteran Congress politician M Krishnappa. His name was excluded at the last moment for unknown reasons.

September 4, 2016: When Vokkaliga leaders, MH Ambareesh and Kimmane Ratnakar resigned from the party, it left one berth vacant. It was filled by M Krishnappa whose exclusion resulted in violent protests.

January 21, 2018: The Vijayanagar  MLA and his son, Priya Krishna, were in talks with joining the BJP, but had not yet confirmed their position.

January 29, 2018:  Vendors are not in favor of the market space given to them on Vijaynagar 8th Main road on the lines of Palika Bazaar in Delhi. They fear the wrath of the real-estate baron cum MLA whose men have been collecting fees to get allocated a particular space in the upcoming area.  

March 7, 2018:  He is among the many politicians backing his offspring into the fold once again from Govindaraj Nagar constituency.
