Bangalore Bus Prayanikara Vedike calls for black day on Bus Day

The campaign against the bus fare hike by the Bangalore Bus Prayaanikara Vedike has been going on for the past one week. On Friday June 28, the Vedike held a protest outside the BMTC office and submitted a memorandum (scanned copy and English version attached) to the GM, BMTC. The GM promised to review the fare-hike decision and also call for a meeting. However, the very same day, the BMTC MD once again issued a public statement declaring that the fare hike will not be taken back at any cost. We have also not heard from BMTC on whether they will hold a public meeting on this issue.
The Vedike however continues its campaign against the unfair hike. As part of our campaign, we are asking for commuters in the city to observe a ‘Black Day’ on the 4th of this month, a day which BMTC celebrates as BUS Day. We call upon commuters to wear black clothes or a black band and board the buses on this day to show their protest against this hike. Members of the Vedike have been spreading the message of the Black Day in Majestic, Hebbal and other bus stands (People who are really angered by the bus-fare hike have been responding favourably to the campaign and are promising to  wear black. A few commuters also joined in the campaign.
As part of the campaign, we are having awareness sessions on ‘Black Day’ this evening and tomorrow morning at Majestic Bus stand and Hebbal. We will be continuing to urge people to wear black clothes/tie a black band to show their anger at the fare hike.

  1. I am a daily commuter travelling around 65 km up and down from Begihall (Jigani) to Cunningham road. I travel using a Volvo monthly pass. The route is (365, 365 J)etc. The BMTC Volvo has very poor service through this route especially in the evening as we are stranded in Majestic daily for almost `1 to 1.5 hour just waiting for Volvo bus to be precise from 630 to 730 p ,m. If you inquire in the inquiry section, they say there is no timing for this route, may or may not come, better try local gaadi. Since there is no timing for this route, the staff also take advantage of it by cancelling the trip stating rain or traffic jam. After a long wait, finally when the bus comes, it is often cut short to Gottigere rather than Bannerghatta park. At the same time, while waiting we could see number of Volvo buses (route 333E, 335 etc runs with no passengers or with couple of them every “5 minutes”. We as a passengers feels cheated because of the poor service rendered through this route after spending monthly nearly 2000 rs for the pass. A spare bus (Volvo) should be introduced when there is a gap of more than 15 minutes till the peak time is over that is (5 to 8 pm) so that the passengers need not wait.

  2. these complaints r not new to any media, but no one pays attention, but keep alerting through one r other media, so here I m. 1. NR.colony veg mrket is d busyone after Gandhibazar, but market have cattle menace morning and evening u can see cattles roam causing panic among public and trouble to bmtc buses, there r many accdents happened in this area. 2. basement of Nr.colony complex is dirty and breeding mosquitos, can any concern attend to this two problems.
