Feet on the Street, a monthly 5km run

Runners For Life, a community of people who run to get fit announced their new event ‘Feet on the Street’, a 5km run to be held in the city. The organisers will share a portion of the proceeds from the event with Dream A Dream, a local NGO working with some of Bangalore’s most vulnerable children including orphans, street kids and other children in slum communities.

The format of Feet on the Street is unique. These are monthly runs. It is not a track and field event, but will be held in a central location, Cubbon Park. In addition to running, and popularising the sport of running, runners will also be able to support a cause while doing so. As more people start running and realizing the importance of running to get healthy, they will also benefit from being a part of Runners for Life, the largest community of runners in the country. Hence the tagline of the event is ‘Let’s get Bangalore running’.

"We are thrilled to bring a unique, monthly running event, to Bangalore city," said Arvind Bharathi, Manager, Runners For Life. "We as a running community have been organising running events for a long time. Our objective is to spread the awareness of the benefits of running by getting more people in Bangalore to start running. "

Nike, the running partner for RFL, is also actively involved in supporting Feet on the Street, in its effort to give an impetus to running in India, accelerate the adoption of running to increase awareness of fitness and healthy living amongst the rapidly increasing and busy population in the city. In fact Nike Run Club is a weekly run, held every Saturday where people train and run together.

The beneficiary of Feet on the Street, Buvana Sharma, Fundraising and Communications Manager of Dream-A-Dream, added, "the run will also help our organisation to raise funds to support Dream A Dream’s life skills programs where children learn valuable skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving – skills which will ultimately help them to achieve their dreams."

Date of the run: 08 March 2009

Venue: Assembly point is Nike Run Club, Kanteerva Stadium. The run will be inside Cubbon Park.

Registration fee: Rs. 200/-

  1. Although I pass through the area everyday on my way to work, it’s been a long while since I have ‘set foot’ on Cubbon Park. I am gonna be there this Sunday. Hope to see a lot of citizens out there…
