It’s Gaalipata time!

If kite flying has ever caught your fancy, ‘Gaalipata Time’ maybe a good place to start. Namma Bengaluru Foundation and Citizen Matters are organising this community event on Sunday, February 12th.

Time: 9 am – 3 pm, February 12th
Venue: Koramangala 3rd block playground, next to Post Office, 12th main, 3rd block.

Kite expert and former state award winner Sabir Hussian will guide those participating in kite flying. "There will be some 50 varieties of kites for sale and exhibition at the event. In additional to traditional kites, there will be designer kites with bird and animal patterns. Kites will be on sale in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 500," says Hussain.

There will also be traditional games like Pagade, Chowka Bara, Aadu Huli Aata, Tops and Marbles, hosted by toy store Kavade. Sreeranjini G S, founder of Kavade, says that the store has held similar events before and that the response has been usually good.

Kavade was founded to promote traditional games that provide active entertainment and foster interpersonal skills and logical thinking.

"Traditional games resonate more with adults, and they are the ones usually bringing children to the events. Children – even those as young as six years – engage with these games very fast. Games like Chowka Bara are very popular," she says. The tradional games session is sponsored by ApnaComplex, developer of apartment management software.

Also enjoy snacks, ice creams and refreshments at the event. The event is open to all from 9 am to 3 pm at Koramangala 3rd block playground.

  1. Thanks Ajay! Glad you folks had a good time.
We got the kites made with surplus print mag sheets, looks they were not light enough :-/
Well, lesson learnt and next time, we will fix that.

  2. Enjoyed this event!

It was well organised: giving away free kites was a great idea (even tho’ they werent very good, but you could buy better ones). My son got a thread cut, and there was basic first aid on hand. Wonderful that there were expert kite flyers willing to help out novices.

  3. * Stalls by will also be put up, and interested people can buy the traditional board games
