Has BBMP learnt a lesson or two from the Sampige Road-Malleswaram mess? Why on earth does the BBMP keep sanctioning multi-storeyed apartment complexes flouting building Bye-laws/CDP norms?

We have a crowded narrow road of 9.5m wide in Ward No. 179 (Shakambarinagar) in JP Nagar Ist Phase. The road has quite a few bottlenecks and the Traffic Police have barred entry of heavy traffic vehicles from 46th cross Jayanagar (Inner Ring Road) and from Indira Gandhi Circle on the other end. Recently BBMP has sanctioned 250 high-end apartment buildings on an 8 acre land adjoining this narrow road. The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) says the road width should be at least 30 metres for sites measuring 4000-20,000 square metres. This particular site measurements is over 31,000 sq.mts which calls for road width of over 30 mts.
Further, no comprehensive traffic assessment has been made by the Traffic Police who do not seem to have been approached for the purpose. The area is primarily classified as residential and it falls under Zone II. Such a mammoth project is not sustainable by the narrow streets adjoining the site and eventually the same authority is likely to propose road widening!
A representation has been made by our Residents Welfare Association, and we are awaiting reply from BBMP.⊕
