Located in West Bengaluru, Rajajinagar was named after the freedom fighter C. Rajagopalachari, also the first non-British or Indian Governor-General. This constituency comprises the following wards: Dayananda Nagar, Prakashnagar, Rajajinagar, Basaveshwarnagar, Kamakshipalya, Shivanagar and Sri Rama Mandir.

Rajajinagar constituency has quite a history. It is well-maintained, being a “planned” area in the city, but over time, the development became haphazard . The constituency is about 5.5 sq kms. Although it is a traditional, residential area, it has shown quite a remarkable commercial development, leading to unplanned growth and illegal buildings. A number of educational institutions, hospitals and temples as well as industries, both large and small, have sprung up in this area.

There is a mix of both middle class as well as low income group residential areas here. Rajaji Nagar, Basaveshwar Nagar and Sriramamandir have large groups of middle class sections. However, water shortage is a big problem. Dayanand Nagar and Prakash Nagar wards house many low income colonies that lack basic facilities. Due to water shortage, clogged drains and poor sanitation, the residents tend to face a lot of health problems, especially dengue. A number of roads are in poor condition.
