Time to get ‘Oota from your thota’

This Sunday – Aug 28th, Bengaluru joins other Indian cities in the movement initiated by Kitchen Gardener’s International to create awareness and promote ‘grow and eat organic vegetables’ in your own homes. Garden City Farmers Trust, Bengaluru along with media partner Citizen Matters, brings you ‘Oota from your thota’ where you can learn about organic kitchen gardening.

Biodiversity Conservation Indian Limited (BCIL), a Bangalore based company that is a pioneer in the construction of green building projects in the country is sponsoring the event.

The participants and invitees at ‘Oota from your thota’ includes a well balanced mix of practitioners, vendors, and enthusiasts; promising an interesting, informative and hands-on experience for all visitors.

You are sure to head back not just eager, but also adequately geared to start your own little home kitchen garden. And if you already have one, be assured that you’ll find a whole range of new possibilities for expanding your patch of green.

For Seeds

Green Foundation and Vanastree have been working for several years now to promote traditional varieties of seeds.

Garden decor and accessories

Whether you want it basic and utilitarian or you prefer a little more colour and aesthetics, planters and garden tools and accessories to suit all tastes will be available from Varsha Enterprises, Green Essence and My Sunny Balcony.D

Open sessions on organic gardening and composting

Composting is integral to an organic home garden and the Daily Dump terracotta composters on sale will help you get started right away. Demos on composting will be ongoing by the Daily Dump team and Vani Murthy – a composting evangelist. Dr BN Viswanath of Garden City Farmers Trust will be sharing tips and giving a demo on home kitchen gardening.

Organic vegetables and food

Adi Naturals, Sahaja Samruddha, Janodaya will also be participating and you can buy organically grown vegetables and other produce including cereals, pulses, grains and value added products.

To give you a taste of the joys of organic food, organic and nutritious snacks will be on sale at the stalls by In the Pink, Slurp and Vathsalya foods.

Interesting activities for children have also been thought of – they can learn sketching of plants, fruits and flowers at Sangeeta Kadur’s session. Get your kids to eat healthy with sessions on healthy nutritional choices by Health Smart Kids.

Needless to say, you need to carry your own cloth bags to the event. However, in case you forget to, the compact and useful Small Steps bags will also be on sale at the event.
