10,463 nominations for Namma Bengaluru Awards

The Namma Bengaluru Awards, set up by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF), in its second edition has recieved a massive 10,463 nominations, says a release by the foundation on Tuesday, January 11th. This is an increase of more than 150% since last year.  


One of the nominations was sent in by Narasingh, visually challenged by birth. He sent it in Braille format for Dr V Ashok Kumar, an Ayurvedic doctor. Nomination forms had been made available at more than 133 retail outlets of Food World, Bangalore One, Coffee Day, and CUPPA across the city.

Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde is a member of the jury this year too. He felt that sheer size of the nominations only indicated that are many responsible Bangalureans who contribute greatly towards the city. "I congratulate them on being nominated and urge them to continue their good work and wish them the best in this year’s awards", says Hedge.

The shortlisted candidates will now be scanned and the NBF will conduct background checks. A final list of candidates would then be released around release mid January, says the release. This year, a  "Bengalurean of the year award" has been introduced.

Chairman of the Jury is Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who also heads the NBF. The 23 jury members include eminent sportspersons, lawyers, professors, actors and others. The list is here. PricewaterhouseCoopers are advisors to the awards.

The winners will receive the awards on the 4th of February at Palace Grounds. Last year’s awards were given away to 14 winners on 27th February.
