Banashankari senior citizens forum felicitates three women on Women’s day

Jnanajyothi, the Senior Citizens Forum of Banashankari II Stage celebrated Women’s Day on March 15th 2010. It did so (for the 5th year running) by felicitating three women who have been contributing to the locality and society.

The function, held at Bhageerathi Auditorium, BNM College, was conducted by the male members of Jnanajyothi.

Those felicitated were:

Dr Arundhati Murthy – a doctor for over 50 years with a Fellowship from WHO, she taught many students at KMC and is one of the Directors of Anugraha Vittala Hospital.

Rajyashree Satish – an artist in AIR, an announcer in Doordarshan, a language editor (Kannada and English) of countless text books (CBSE and Medical), she has been serving in Canara Bank Relief and Welfare Society of BSK II Stage for over 17 years. She heads a team of 70 volunteers in the field of Braille Transcription. She is also the Co-Editor of English to Kannada and Kannada to Kannada dictionaries (of Prism Publications) with Prof G Venkatasubbiah.

Shantha Navarathna Laxman – the first lady advocate in Shimoga and a teacher, she is also one of the founder members of Jnanajyothi (has been involved in all its activities since its inception 10 years ago).

  1. Very happy to know this, in fct I was also invited to this function which I could not attend for some reason. we need to recognose services of all such persons locally and honour them, in return we are honouring ourselves.
