Discrepancies in voter ID card preparation

B S Ganesh and his family had to go through the entire procedure of getting the Voter ID card twice, all because the photos taken earlier had disappeared from the system!

Ours is a family of four adults and two children. We had prepared ID cards for all as per the procedure laid down by the election commission by getting official photos taken at corporation center. We, now, have our Voter ID cards with our photos and other required details.

But when I recently checked before the election at the Help Center, we were surprised that our photos are not available in the computer of the Help Center. Again, they took our photos and gave us new ID cards. I really wonder how photos can go missing.

Just four days prior to election, theBJP volunteers gave voter slip for easy identification at the booth for voting. In this, only three names of our family is correct and another person mentioned as a resident in our house is somebody else. This actually disqualifies one person of our family. Since this person who is not mentioned is out of India, we have not bothered to complain. But others have complained of similar issues and many votes are lost.

I too have similar experience. We are four members in the family my self ,my wife ,son and daughter-in-law and all the four have the voters identity cards, but when we went to the polling booth my son’s and daughter-in-law’s names are missing in the rolls and they could not vote. Previous elections we four voted but in this election mysteriously I find two of my family mambers names missing from the electoral rolls. The authorities have to take some urgent steps to rectify the mistakes in the electoral rolls. This has become a universal ptroblem in almost all the states. I feel Instead of depending upon the goverment some NGOs should take the responsibility of registering the prospective voters scrutinise the electoral rolls and bring to the notice of authorities any discrepencies in the rolls and rectify the same. Side by side this NGO should also take up the task of attending to the voters apathy by educating and motivating them especially the urban middle and upper class. This education should be a continuous process. Nearly 50% of the electorate comprises of this class. If this section of the society unite and participate in the voting we can definitely eliminate the criminals getting elected.

I TOO HAD THE SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. AFTER SPENDING 7-8 VISITS TO BBMP/MUNICIPAL WARD OFFICE FINALLY I GOT MY PICTURE ID CARD [EPIC]WELL BEFORE TWO MONTHS OF THE GREAT GENERAL ELECTION OF INDIA!! BUT ON THE ELECTION DAY AT GIRINAGAR VOTING CENTRE I WAS INFORMED BY THE ELECTION-AGENT THAT MY NAME WAS MISSING IN THE VOTER’S LIST. BUT SURPRISINGLY MY WIFE NAME WAS IN THE SAME SO CALLED VOTER’S LIST.I THIKK THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO CONDUCT VOTING.WE HAVE TO LEARN THE PROPER WAY OF CODUCTING ELECTION FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES.IT IS REALLY SHAME THAT EVEN AFTER 62 YEARS AFTER INDEPENDENCE YET TO LEARN PROPER WAY OF CONDUCTING E L E C T I O N.
